Flowing Into The New Year

January 01, 2026

Reimaging the theme of 2025 led with delusion it would shift at some point with a much more grounded footing, but instead met with chaos, possible dissociation, and the medience of our loved ones bringing in harmony our way. It brought about significant shifts towards your internal workings and outwardly affected the trajectory of the path you were walking on. Reflecting on the changes that were presented to you...Did you embrace them, cry about it, scream, smoke a blunt, and face it head-on?
As 2026 begins according to the Gregorian calendar (solar), let us remember the Chinese calendar (lunar). The lunar calendar follows the cycle of the moon, along with zodiac animals embedded. There was a great race 2,000 years ago that brought twelve animals competing for a place. Each animal signifies the trajectory for the year. The calendar order shifts every twelve years. While the end of the year is noted at December 31st, the new year begins on February 17, 2026 noted in the Chinese lunar calendar. As we watched fireworks in the night sky illuminate through the rain once midnight struck, a buildup of release came about, letting go of the chaotic energy that lingered. This post brings forth the elements we witnessed throughout the year.
If you recall, January 2025 began with fires ablazing with heartache seeping through the folds of the earth. With February rolling in, we were then met with a presidency that tainted the grapple of humanity that glued itself til the end of the year. March Madness is rolling in with the pleasantry of Sean Baker being awarded multiple Oscars. April sailed in with the opportunity to bless us with Sinners' captivating cinematography, putting the audience in a mesmerizing trance. May showers brought our first Chicago-born to the Vatican, bringing forth our first American Pope. June was life-altering as the National Guard was sent out towards major cities such as Los Angeles, Portland, D.C, New York, and Chicago. These acts were to implode our remaining hope and strides to develop immigration rights. The protests across the the nation, collectively seething to develop a united front and building awareness on immigrant rights. July soared with extraterristial life theories as ATLAS discovered a comet, being the third closest object passing by earth. August brought the swifties out towards revisiong love again. September contineud to emphasize on Palenstine and communities working towards acknowledge the fathom occuring in Gaza. October led with the government shutdown for majority of the month and the comical jewelry heist in Paris, France vanishing into the streets. November arose with files being shared to the public but raised more questions. December ended with the rescheudling of Cannabis from a schedule I (labeled with LSD, Ectasy, MDMA) to a schedule III (Tylenol, Katemine, Anabolic Steroids). This changes the image of cannabis if it is approved by the FDA to be prescribed by medical providers and pharmacies. This would not diminish the current legalization of the 40 states but more so a movement towards removing cannabis from the Controlled Substance Act.
Recounting life expereinces in the year, let us turn back inwards and notice shedding still occurring within ourselves and the world around us. As you envision a snake, it is fierce and powerful with its bite. The snake is defined as bold and able to sneak up on its prey stealthily. 2025 did not feel smooth at all, with the challenges occurring at every corner resembling a cheesy horror film as characters finding a way out of its nightmare. With each crossroad that was met, remember you were able to do it scared, do it brave, do it couragsuly, do it doubful, do it empowered, do it crying, do it laughing, do it for YOU. All the choices that were made throughout 2025 will tread into 2026 with a chance to strive and thrive. Take this as a continous reflection of becoming the being that you can smile at every morning... the shadow parts of you are no longer fearful of immerging because there is a seat at the table for them. Personally, my lessons for the past year were met with grief, heartbreak, and shapshifting. I see myself coming into the new year with a feeling of true release. I did two limpias facilaited by two spirit indigenous queer folks. Each limpia brought forth unexpected losses I was not ready to let go of and maybe soon I will understand why it was needed. The turmoil that was felt internally and experienced outwardly molded the path you are ready to see this upcoming year.
